Stamped Sheet Brass Fitting
These stamped or pressed door knobs have been produced from brass sheet, generally between 0.8mm and 1.0mm thick. Initially, two separate and quite complicated hardened steel dies must be prepared.

The lower section has a cavity of the desired shape and the upper section has the identical shape in raised form so that the two dies will mesh together. Blanks are cut to size from the brass sheet, and depending on the size and intricacy of the pattern, are stamped to shape in presses of between 10 and 100 ton.

Excess material is trimmed and by using further dies, keyhole and fixing holes are punched. The back plate and knob then go through various polishing stages, before then being lacquered and baked.

This product range has been authentically reproduced from original fittings gathered from around Australia. The only concession is that they were originally pressed from steel sheet rather than brass sheet as we have used.
